ACHIEVEMENTS

HISTORY

The origins of tourism sports at the university date back to its early decades. In the post-war years, our students undertook their first hiking trip in 1948, exploring the surroundings of Vilnius and Aukštadvaris. Later, their routes extended far beyond Lithuania’s borders. In 1952, the University Tourist Club was founded (chaired by V. Januškis). In 1959, the first tourist gathering took place in Bražuolė. These gatherings became a cherished tradition, held annually and eagerly awaited by our students. The leaders of the Hikers’ Club never run out of ideas, organizing the events each year in different locations with unique themes.

In 1989, when G. Zavadskis—a passionate enthusiast of this movement—joined the university, the hiking sports movement gained a new dimension. Today, the club organizes educational trips and prepares for challenging, top-category expeditions. Our team consistently achieves prize-winning results among the country’s higher education institutions—and often takes first place.
