Sport offers a wide range of opportunities that extend beyond the court and competition. It can also be a valuable way to develop leadership, administrative, organisational, and communication skills. VU Health and Sports Centre is committed to providing students with opportunities to grow, gain practical experience, and broaden their competencies through volunteering in a variety of sport-related activities.

Sports Event Planning and Delivery

Help shape the sporting life of VU by contributing to the organisation of competitions, tournaments, sports initiatives, and community events – from developing ideas to bringing them to life.

Activities:

  • Planning and coordinating sports events;
  • Managing participant registration and event-related information;
  • Supporting the delivery of events on the day;
  • Developing new sports initiatives and activities.

Leading Physical Activity and Wellbeing Activities

Inspire the VU community to embrace an active lifestyle by leading training sessions, running groups, and other physical activity initiatives.

Activities:

  • Organising and leading running groups;
  • Assisting with or leading sports training sessions;
  • Organising morning exercise sessions and active breaks;
  • Facilitating hikes and other active leisure activities.

Building the VU Sports Community

Help strengthen connections between students, staff, and faculties by encouraging participation, engagement, and a strong sense of community.

Activities:

  • Collaborating with faculties and student organisations;
  • Developing a network of sports ambassadors;
  • Engaging new participants in sports and wellbeing activities;
  • Developing and supporting community-led initiatives.

Communication, Storytelling, and Sports Ambassadorship

Help tell the story of sport at VU and inspire others to get active by creating engaging content about our community, its people, experiences, and achievements.

Activities:

  • Creating content for social media;
  • Developing participant stories and conducting interviews;
  • Supporting event communications;
  • Creating photography, video, and storytelling projects.

Health and Sports Research and Administrative Support

Help us better understand the needs of the VU community and contribute to the continuous improvement of our activities and services.

Activities:

  • Designing and conducting surveys;
  • Analysing participant feedback;
  • Collecting data and providing insights;
  • Supporting the Centre's day-to-day administrative processes.

Wellbeing Education and Knowledge Sharing

Share your knowledge about healthy living and help foster a more health-conscious and engaged VU community.

Activities:

  • Organising lectures and seminars;
  • Coordinating wellbeing workshops;
  • Creating educational content;
  • Organising meetings and events with experts and members of the VU community.
